Squirrel Hunting

This little squirrel is so adorable! But not when he is in your BASEMENT! Actually, he is not the one in our basement, but looks identical to him!
When we returned home from Kentucky Thursday evening, we noticed right away that there was someone/something in our basement rearranging various items. Soon we spotted that the flue covering was off of the chimney and there were little suetty paw prints in some places. Yes, it was easy to deduct that we had a little furry critter in the basement. The next morning I saw the little guy, and he looked like the above picture, (which I did not take, but just wanted to post so you could visualize our guest.)
Yesterday we tried a few techniques to remove the squirrel, from opening the basement window, and Leon sitting quietly for about 3 hours watching to see if he left, and even practicing with his pellet gun, but it's not easy in the basement around the aquarium, furnace, computer, washer and dryer, etc. So last evening we did not hear him, but about noon today I heard him running around down there, so we called a neighbor and borrowed this trap to try to catch him.
Below is a picture of the feast we prepared for him to have at his "going back outside party".

Hickory nuts, sunflower seed, shelled corn and peanut butter! Yum Yum

Hopefully by the next posting our squirrel is back outside where he belongs.

Good luck on your your attempt at "critter" removal from your basement. Here is our squirrel story in shot form.:-) When we lived in Tampa we had "1" we thought in our attic. In time we learned we had a whole family of them. We were feeding them during the day outside in the yard not knowing they were going up in the attic of a night. For about 6 months we had a terrible time with hearing them up there and not being able to get them out. After several attempts of trying to remove them we thought they were GONE. Then,we heard the noise again & Super Spy Danny saw eye to eye with one left up there. Finally the squirrel I guess decided he had enough of our house and left. We wired the place up at the Air Cond. vent and never heard from them again or Fed them again. They are protected by law in Florida and I can understand that but--- when they are in your attic they need to GO! Good Luck.

They are cute little critters, but not when they come into your uninvited. We had a visitor also last year..We had no idea how he got in but we could hear him walking around...so sneaking up in the attic to check it out..we saw him..So we hired someone to check to see how he got in...He could find no place for him to come in, but some how he went out the same way and we have not been troubled with them "in the house" any more..Now If we could find out how to stop the deer from eating our roses and lilies..
