More Snow Last Week

Last week we had another snow! And I knew that the time was short for photo opportunities, so out I went with camera in hand to capture the views in our woodland. It was so pretty as the snow had stuck to the west side of the trees and was a very wet snow. The air was cold, but the sun came out and the time was very limited for picture taking, as the snow melted rapidly.

Our geese came waddling up the path to check on their shelled corn. The birds are always abundant on the winter days when the cold winds blow and the snow and ice cover their other food options.

I tried the different settings on the camera to see if the "shade" mode had a better effect, as it took out the blue from the photos. It was a lot of fun, but I am still looking forward to those daffodils, and spring flowers. Next month--I love springtime!

One More Glimpse

Look up and see God's Snow Sculpture!

Here is the latest happening in our woods. The large tree toppled over about 3 A.M. and Leon heard it when he was at the computer. The next morning we looked outside to see where the noise had come from and saw this latest tree that had fallen. It had been dead for sometime, but the winds finally laid it to rest. If you look closely, you will see that it fell on top of another tree, which was small in comparison, but still about 40 foot tall and under lots of stress from the weight of the large one. So with chainsaw in hand, off we went through the soggy ground to try to help out our younger tree. We now have it tied up with a rope, and a come-along on it so we can slowly help it return to an upright position. Such are the adventures of a woodland.

I couldn't resist a photo of the water beside our driveway after the melted snow. Leon was busy unclogging the drains that go under the driveway, and I was busy with camera in hand. Imagine that!! It is getting ready for spring, but so am I! I have been enjoying a more lazy time of reading, painting and staying cozy inside, but now I am yearning for the flowers, and exercise in the yard and garden.

Just a few more of the photos I took of our snow. Our pond has now thawed and the Canadian geese have returned. Soon they will be nesting by that little cypress tree on the island. Somehow they seem like "family", as they always make their way back to us when the season is right. And I am always thrilled to see them.

I did not want to walk on the snow and disturb the perfect way it had fallen. Finally, when I heard that our temperatures were to be in the 60's and then rain, I knew that it would be disappearing fast, and I had this one last day to get out there and shoot some pictures. So I did! This our little shed, as seen from back towards the pond. The foot prints were not mine, but probably from a neighbor's dog, or some other critter.

I must admit that I am glad the snow has left, but I am thankful that we had it. I enjoyed it's beauty, plus it added to the water in our pond. The pond had been low for some time, but is now almost full. I am sure we will have spring rains, and that will finish filling it before the summer heat hits. It was a serene tranquil time walking through the woods, around the pond and along the fence rows while the snow blanketed the ground. Each season holds it's own uniqueness, and special experiences. Everyday there are more pictures waiting to be snapped, as we look at our surroundings on life's journey.
